Title: Pith of an Orange Tree
Storyline: 'Pith of an Orange Tree' is a short film set in Sydney that follows the intertwined lives of Kota and her father, Joe, through time and memory. The film captures three versions of Kota, as a toddler, a child, and a teenager — each representing different stages of her life and her journey of self-discovery and emotional healing.
Through flashbacks and moments of reflection, the story explores the complexities of family relationships, grief, and the slow process of finding peace.
At the heart of the narrative lies an art therapy class where broken individuals attempt to piece themselves back together, guided by a compassionate art therapist.
Themes of forgiveness, memory, and resilience run through the story, symbolised by the orange tree — representing both growth and the bittersweet nature of recovery.
Why apply: a moving character-driven project with layered emotional roles, professional on-set experience, and a chance to be showcased in film festivals while earning a paid role
