Details

Title: By Any Other Name

Storyline: Set in rural Queensland, 'By Any Other Name' is a powerful short film exploring identity, memory, and transformation.

The story canters on Cooper, a trans-man who returns to his hometown years after disappearing as a teenager. Formerly known as Dianne, Cooper must confront a community that has mythologized his former self.

As he steps back into the past, he is forced to challenge rigid narratives and reclaim his truth. Meanwhile, Banjo - Dianne’s ex-boyfriend and the town’s junior sheriff finds his heroic image shaken as Cooper's return forces him to reckon with his own assumptions.

This trans western is a deeply emotional drama about queer courage and inner strength. Backed by Griffith Film School, the film will be shot across multiple blocks in 2025, offering performers meaningful, character-driven roles in a graduate-level cinematic production.
