Title: Soup Sundays
Storyline: 'Soup Sundays' is a heartfelt short film that blends emotional drama with light comedy. It explores the intimate bond between a neurodivergent boy named Harold and his eccentric, fiercely loving Grammy.
After being abandoned by his parents, Harold finds solace and belonging in Grammy’s whimsical world, where she becomes his sole support and guardian.
As Harold grows up, Grammy’s death marks the beginning of a tragic decline. The once bright, curious boy slowly becomes labelled as 'crazy,' as his quirky traits are misinterpreted by a world that does not understand him.
The film also follows the emotional conflict between Harold’s extended family and a compassionate school teacher who tries to bridge the gap between Harold’s needs and his family’s inability to cope.
This powerful and emotional narrative offers aspiring actors the chance to portray layered, deeply human characters.
If you're passionate about telling stories that champion neurodivergent voices, challenge stigma, and highlight the complexities of family and loss — this is your chance
Where did this casting call come from?
Paid roles available for principal characters. Some expenses may be covered.
No experience is needed although a commitment to filming with a good attitude is required
Female 65 to 80
Grammy. Grammy is eccentric, unapologetically blunt, and effortlessly funny. She says exactly what she means and does exactly as she pleases. But beneath her wild spirit is a deep sense of responsibility. After Harold’s parents abandoned him, she became his entire world, and he became hers
Male 18 to 34
Harold. Harold was a bright neurodivergent boy who saw the world through a lens of wonder. He remained blissfully unaware of his hardships, shielded by the unwavering love of his Grammy. But without her, Harold is adrift. Years later, he is unrecognisable. Harold is lost and labelled “crazy,” as his once endearing quirks have become signs of instability
Female 25 to 41
Teacher. She’s one of the only people, aside from Grammy, who truly sees Harold. A warm, empathetic primary school teacher, she’s the kind of adult who makes her students feel safe. While gentle in nature, she has a quiet strength and a deep belief in the potential of every child — especially those who often go unnoticed
Male 25 to 41
Husband. He’s protective and well-meaning. He wants what’s best for his family — but his perspective is limited. Unable to fully understand Harold’s experience, he prioritises stability over empathy
Female 25 to 41
Wife. She’s fiercely protective of her family — sometimes to a fault. Quick to judge and quick to speak, she tends to escalate situations in the name of keeping her loved ones safe. Her confrontational approach often causes more harm than good, especially when it comes to understanding those outside her circle
Male or female 14 to 18
Confrontational family member
