Storyline: 'Dicky’s Dead' is a comedy short following the outrageous funeral proceedings of a recently deceased SoundCloud rapper. As family, friends, and others gather to say goodbye, chaos unfolds, secrets surface, and personalities clash — all against a backdrop of absurdity and grief-fuelled drama.
Each character offers a unique comedic lens on modern relationships, generational differences, and the awkward hilarity that can happen when people pretend to grieve… or don’t even bother trying.
This is a paid third-year project from Massey University, and a brilliant opportunity for actors confident with improvisation or bold character work. If you’re up for a laugh and love offbeat humour, this is for you

Robert. A bitter middle-aged man who blames his dead step-son Dicky for his recent divorce
Female 18 to 28
Courtney. A girl in her mid 20s who was Dicky’s girlfriend. However, as a widow, her sex life has flourished
Male 20 to 34
Father Bill. A 20 to 30 year old priest. He’s naïve and innocent, giving his first ever funeral service

Nico. A 20-something-year-old bloke, there to hang and crack some brews for his dead bro
Female 18 to 28
Tia. An 18 to 19-year-old girl who is the niece of Dicky. She looked up to her uncle but nothing's above getting the bag
