Legal - the law and you
Current UK laws regarding fees and the
entertainment industry 2013
Fame Street is fully compliant with
all relevant UK laws
There is some confusion amongst the
public about the current UK laws
regarding 'agencies' and 'up front fees'
Fame Street is not an agency and does
not charge up front fees for supplying
work to work seekers. An agency is a
company that will find specific and
bespoke work for work seekers and then
take a percentage of their income over a
fixed period of time for the services
provided. Fame Street simply publish
publicly available opportunities for
members, but these are general and
non-specific and we do not match any
member to any job or have any personal
relationship with any member. Fame
Street simply provide information that
is already present in the public domain
and members of Fame Street can then act
on the information if they so choose.
Fame Street do not find work for work
seekers.
Actors, film extras, singers, dancers
and the general public
The current law states that in the UK
you cannot be charged an upfront fee by
someone for finding you work, however
there are exceptions aimed specifically
at the entertainment industry. It is
legal to charge a reasonable fee for
inclusion into an online directory (
excluding models) that includes
providing information of publicly
available opportunities aimed at actors,
singers and dancers etc although this
does not apply toward models and
modeling opportunities and those seeking
work as a model (see below)
Models and modeling
Under UK law, It is currently not
lawful to charge any 'up front' fees for
models or aspiring models seeking
modeling work and therefore, to comply
and respect UK legislation, Fame Street
do not publish any auditions,
casting calls or opportunities for
models or the modeling industry. If you
are an aspiring model you are welcome to
a free online profile but can only apply
for opportunities related to acting,
singing, dancing and some other similar
genres but not modeling.
Fame Street and UK Governing bodies
Fame Street met in person with a top
representative from the Employment
Agency Inspectorate Department in late
2011. The website ( www.famestreet.com )
was thoroughly reviewed and after some
minor adjustments and some alterations
in the terms and conditions, Fame Street
was then considered to be fully
compliant with all the relevant UK laws
to date. The meeting was very productive
and appreciated and Fame Street fully
supported and implemented the views and
recommendations suggested by the E.A.C
representative that we met with.
The main recommendations that were
implemented into Fame Street for full
compliance were as follows:
1) No listings to be aimed at models
whatsoever
2) 30 day payment delay / cooling off
period
3) To charge no more than a 'reasonable
amount' for inclusion into our online
directory. Fame Street no longer charge
a fee for inclusion into the online
directory as this is a free service
available to everyone. Fame Street only
charge for upgrading members to 'gold
membership' which allows members access
to publicly available opportunities in
acting, singing, dancing which has been
compiled by our team. All opportunities
exclude the modeling industry totally
Fame Street Ltd comply with all UK and
USA laws and will report any form of
abuse to the relevant authorities. All
content on the website and promotional
material is copyrighted. Reproduction or
duplication is prohibited under UK law
unless prior permission has been sought.
