Category - Inspirational

Winner - Rocky

At the last count their were 563 rocky movies made (or was it 6) ;-) Every fan has their own favourite with most opting for the unrealistic Ivan Drago fiasco that was Rocky 4. Maybe the first 'Rocky' being released nearly 30 years ago is the reason that most people overlook the gritty, raw and deservedly Oscar winning screenplay that depicted a down and out 'bum' of a dockworker, picked from obscurity to take on the world champion in Apollo Creed. The actual plot and character development in the first Rocky set the scene for what we believe gave way to the most inspirational movie scene in history. When Rocky gets knocked to the ground, his trainer shouts 'down, down stay down' but rocky rises again to the utter disbelief of his opponent. Rocky then gives everything he has, his heart, body and soul to deliver a devastating rib breaking assault. All this to the backing of a kick-ass soundtrack composed by Bill Conti simply sets the hairs on my arm upright even after my 4 millionth view.

Category - Most Realistic and Violent

Winner - Nil By Mouth

Domestic violence is deplorable but along with all other taboos is a subject that will always be on our screens. Directors have a responsibility to accurately portray these taboos as true to life and realistic as possible so as to project an understanding to the viewer of how victims suffer. This scene is actor Ray Winston at his best in an acting sense. One can feel that this was not even scripted and that we are really a fly on the wall watching from the outside. The realism is enhanced with a hand held in-your-face camera technique that brings the viewer into the situation with the actors

WARNING - This scene shows very strong domestic violence with very strong language (18+)

Category - Psychology

Winner - No Country For Old Men

Sometime a scene is so captivating that the view feels compelled to keep watching just to see what happens after which the viewer is left with a whole head full of analysis as to what the hell it was all about. Psychological scenes within movies can play real tricks with a persons psyche and leave them questioning what happened after the clip moved on even if that's where the film ends. This following scene plays on that analogy after which you may assess and replay the situation in your head for hours, even years or maybe you'll instantly forget. See what happens with you.

Category - Desperate Situation

Winner - The Deer Hunter

'Now That's Another Fine Mess You've Got Me Into' barked Hardy to Laurel for the umpteenth time. I think Hardy never really appreciated the situation that others find themselves in where it seems death is unavoidable. Based on true events, 3 best friends from the mid west enrol into the army to fight in the Vietnam war only to be captures and forced into a hideous situation playing Russian roulette for the amusement and gambling habits of their captors. It also helps that the cast are world class too!

Category - Most Dramatic

Winner - Saving Private Ryan

Most battle scenes in films are just plain daft. It normally takes a visionary, almost genius like director to take on a challenge in this genre and be successful. One such director is Steven Spielberg who finally gave the cinema world an opening battle scene not surpassed since its release. The D-Day landings in Calais capture all that was experienced by the soldiers in true-to-life and brutal realism. Although the films storyline was somewhat suspect, the battle scenes keep a consistency throughout never wavering from the directors creative eye or historical attention to detail.
