Modelling for catalogues
Catalogue modelling
engulfs a huge section
of the
modelling
industry with a wide
range of outlets using a
wide and diverse
selection of models.
Open any newspaper,
catalogue and magazine
and you will find the
pages awash with
models
promoting everything
from jewellery, clothes,
stair lifts, cars,
computer games and just
about any object you can
think of. When people
try to break into the
modelling industry it is
usually the fashion and
catalogue genre that
they aim for and have
the most success in.
Due to the nature of
this type of
modelling
there are few
restrictions with age,
height and looks as work
can be found for just
about anyone. Whereas
most products and
clothing catalogues
would generally use a
good looking man, woman
or child, there are
still many company's
that require specific
and unconventional looks
so don't be swayed if
your look is not what
you would call
'commercial'
Fashion and catalogue
models are normally
chosen as they can
depict the 'average'
man, woman or child
wearing clothes,
accessories or
interacting with
products in a way that
would appeal to the
general masses hence
increasing success of
product sales. Catalogue
models also have a
longer shelf life as
retailers know that a
catalogue model can grow
alongside the brand and
advertise it for years
as catalogue and product
models can be much older
than other types of
modelling - think about
the adverts you have
seen advertising hearing
aids and stair lifts
that use older
models
